Peskov on the US ban on uranium imports from Russia: it’s hard to compete with us
Kremlin official Dmitry Peskov called the decision of the US authorities to ban the import of uranium from Russia as a manifestation of unfair competition. His comment leads TASS.
According to the press secretary of the Russian president, “It’s hard for the Americans to compete with us on the international stage,” so “they do not disdain anything, including measures that violate all international trade standards.”
Peskov noted that such US steps will not critically affect the Russian nuclear industry, which is one of the most advanced in the world and will continue to develop.
Earlier, Washington informed that US President Joe Biden had signed a law banning the import of uranium from Russia, the need for which was explained in the White House by the desire to strengthen the country’s energy and economic security. In May, Rosatom warned that the ban on the supply of enriched uranium from Russia to the United States was destructive for the market.
Russia’s share in the global market for this type of fuel is about 40 percent. In 2023, Americans purchased the highest amount of Russian uranium since 2010, $1.2 billion, which is 43 percent more than the corresponding expenses in 2022.
