2021 is about to end and many are taking stock of this year that continues to be under the effect of a pandemic. In this regard, Games Industry has pitted an interesting infographic that shows how things went for the videogame market.
In total, during 2021, global revenue was $ 180 billion, an increase of 1.4% compared to last year. The smartphone game market was the winner, with a total of $ 81.5 billion earned, an 8% increase over last year. As for the PC, revenues amounted to around 34.1 billion dollars, with an increase of 0.9% compared to 2020. On the console front a total of 50.4 billion dollars were recorded, however recording a decrease of 6.6% compared to last year.
On the digital or physical games front, digital wins: 168.5 billion dollars go to digitally downloaded games, while 11.8 billion dollars were achieved with the sale of physical games. In this case it obviously influenced the pandemic that has led to the temporary closure of stores around the world.
As for the PC, the digital games market wins across the board, with 98.9% compared to just 1.1% recorded by physical games. On consoles, on the other hand, we see 77.3% dedicated to digital games and the remaining 22.7% relating to physical titles. As you can see, the infographic contains many other interesting data.
