ANDNew Zealander Harry Hillier set a course record at the El Rincón de Cajicá Club and is aiming for the title of the Inter Rapidísimo Golf Championship. the tournament that closes the ‘Latin swing’ of the PGA Tour Américas.
In the sixth tournament of the circuit in Latin America, Hillier, 24 years old and a professional since 2022, took first place alone by delivering a card of 59 strokes this Friday, 13 under par, and leaving with a cumulative score of 127 (-17) after the first two days.
“It is a very special moment. It almost feels like you just won the tournament, but there are two rounds left to play. I’m going to enjoy it for the next half hour and then it’s time to start thinking about what we’re going to do tomorrow (Saturday),” Hillier said about his round.
There was already a 13 under par this year in a tournament on Colombian soil, but one step higher, on the Korn Ferry Tour: the Chilean Cristóbal del Solar scored the lowest card in the history of tournaments sanctioned by the PGA Tour, 57 impacts, although he did so on a par 70, the Pacos y Fabios course at the Country Club of Bogotá, within the framework of the Astara Golf Championship.
Hillier is the leader with a five-stroke lead over Canadian Matthew Anderson, first in the Fortinet Cup, who will deliver, at the end of this competition, two conditional cards for the Korn Ferry Tour for the first two finishers. Anderson shares second place with Englishman James Swash.
Only two Colombians managed to make the cut
Only two Colombian players managed to enter the top 60 and thus make the cut: Ricardo Celia remains the best local, with 137 hits (-7), in box 13, while Juan Pablo Luna entered the weekend in 25th place, with 138 hits (-6).
For his part, Luna was very pleased to make the cut. “A good finish, the last three holes I was able to make two birdies, fortunately I was able to finish the final holes with pressure and put myself in a good position for the weekend,” said Luna, who is first in the national ranking.
The tournament cut was -3. The other Colombians said goodbye this Friday: Santiago Chamorro (-2), Esteban Jaramillo and Iván Camilo Ramírez (+2), Alejandro Velásquez, Gabriel Cadena and Diego Vanegas (+4), Juan José Aleán and Juan Francisco Mejía (+7) and Felipe Álvarez (+10).
