In the movie The Voice of Love, Valerie Lemercier plays the singer Aline Dieu, a fictional character inspired by the life of celine dion. “She is like an open book. Treat her audience like family. When I saw her at a concert in Bercy, I was able to calculate the fervor of her around her, ”says the actress who also directed the unauthorized biography of her. “I started writing (the screenplay) after a year of reading and research. At first, I called it Céline. When I was about page sixty, Brigitte Buc, with whom she had already written Royal Palace, joined the project and convinced me to change the name”.

Lemercier, actress, screenwriter and director, places the story in the 70’s, in Quebec, Canada. ‘Aline’ is the fourteenth daughter. “I was born into a family of farmers. We were 150 around my grandparents’ table on New Year’s. My father made us practice our names before leaving home. Like the Dion family, each one had to stand on a chair to recite something, sing or play an instrument.

The film that is already on the local billboard has concert scenes that were recorded in France, the Palais des Congrés and the Palais des Sports. “I would never have dared to sing in Quebec in front of Quebec extras with my lousy accent. With all the time we spent preparing, I had little time to practice the part. That’s why I improvised a lot. I learned to lip-sync the songs a day before.” adds the French artist. The songs are performed Victoria Sio. “I wanted to show the strength of his family, the rock that always helped him keep his feet on the ground.”
