A federal court overturned the sentence against the young man of Chechen origin in July 2020, upholding the appeal presented by the lawyers
The Supreme Court of the United States has decided to restore the death sentence for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Chechen responsible for the attack on the Boston Marathon which in 2013 killed 3 people and injured hundreds. In a decision supported by a majority of six conservative-oriented judges, and challenged by the three liberals, the court overturned the decision of the lower judge who had overturned the death penalty for Tsarnaev. “Dzohkhar Tsarnaev committed horrible crimes – Judge Clarence Thomas wrote in the sentence – the sixth amendment guaranteed him a fair trial before an impartial court, and he had it”. In 2015, an appeal judge had instead questioned the impartiality of the jury.
