An attack on a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, left at least 10 dead. The crime took place this Saturday afternoon (May 14, 2022), when a gunman shot people at the Tops Friendly Market.
Without identifying the shooter, authorities said he is an 18-year-old white male and is in prison.
The supermarket is located in a mostly black neighborhood about three miles north of downtown Buffalo.
At a news conference, Erie County Sheriff John Garcia said it was “a racially motivated and hate crime”.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said on her Twitter profile that she is “closely monitoring the shooting.” and that state officials are supporting local ones.
The FBI, the US federal police, is also helping with the investigation. The White House has announced that President Joe Biden has been informed, and that he and First Lady Jill Biden have “are praying for the victims and their loved ones.”
