Text increases resources for school safety and prohibits domestic abusers from buying weapons; goes to Biden sanction
The United States House of Representatives approved this Friday (June 24, 2022) a bipartisan bill that would restrict access to firearms. Were 234 votes in favor and 193 against.
The project now goes to the sanction of the American president, Joe Biden. The head of state defends a regulation for the purchase of weapons.
The proposal was drafted by a group of senators from the Democratic and Republican parties. The vote in the Casa Alta was held on Thursday (June 23). Congressmen approved by 65 votes to 33.
THE “Bipartisan Safe Communities Law” won a 30-year impasse over gun rights in the country. Among some points are the prohibition of domestic aggressors from buying weapons, in addition to increasing resources for mental health and school safety.
The proposal also provides incentives for states that implement “Red flag”. These laws make it possible to seize weapons, with a court order, from people considered dangerous to society.
The measure passed the US Congress a day after the Supreme Court ruled, by 6 votes to 3, that Americans have the right to carry firearms in public for self-defense.
In the US, 25 of the 50 states do not require a license or criminal background check to carry a gun in public spaces. The other half establishes the need for a permit for concealed carrying, that is, the practice of carrying a weapon in public without showing it.
