The United States has detected an increase in Russian naval activity in the Black Sea, where artillery attacks against the Ukrainian port city of Odessa, revealed on Monday (21) a senior Pentagon official.
According to the source, the Russians have “a little more than a dozen warships, amphibious combat vessels of different types and sizes”, among other types of apparatus, in the north of the Black Sea. Furthermore, the artillery attacks against Odessa are the result of these activities by the Russian fleet, “above all, amphibious combat vessels”. The movement, however, does not guarantee that an amphibious invasion will take place against the locality, he said.
In general, the Russian advance is stalled in Ukraine and the US has detected that reinforcements have arrived to support Russian troops that are being attacked in the neighboring country. Washington estimates that the Russian fighting force is 90% in Ukraine, while Moscow has devoted large endowments of resources to the invasion.
“75% of its capacity to generate tactical battalion groups”, he said, referring to the typical apparatus of the Russian Armed Forces, which are units with a high level of preparation to enter, at any time, in high-intensity combat, with different types of weapons. The source added that the US believes that Russia is using more than 60% of the aviation it maintains in the invasion of Ukraine, with fighter planes and helicopters, while it has already suffered losses in this sector.
