WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States said on Saturday it was deeply concerned by developments in Burkina Faso and condemned the overthrow of the country’s government by armed soldiers.
“We note that, for the second time in eight months, military officials have stated that they have dissolved the government and the National Assembly and suspended the constitution,” the US State Department said in a statement.
Gunshots were heard in the Burkina Faso capital on Saturday, a day after President Paul-Henri Damiba was declared overthrown in the second coup the West African country has seen this year.
