They want to build a hotel next to the historic theater on the boulevard. The original theater building would remain as it was.

On the boulevard they want to build a hotel next to the Aleksanteri theater. The hotel would be built in the extension of the theater completed in the 1950s.

In 2022, the private owner who bought the theater property from Senaatti kiinteistö has applied for a plan change to start the project.

For the protection of the old part of the theater completed in 1879, a process has been started on the basis of the Building Heritage Act.

Changes would concern the expansion part, which currently has, among other things, storage and office space, training halls and changing rooms.

The expansion part should be partially demolished and raised by three floors.

The new plan would also protect the trees in front of the theater on the side of Albertinkatu that are significant in terms of cityscape and improve public outdoor spaces.

Alexander's the theater was originally the Russian theater in Helsinki. It has sometimes also been used by the National Opera.

Since 1993, the theater has operated as a visiting theater.

The plan proposal is coming for residents to comment on in April. It is intended to proceed to the Urban Environment Board's consideration in the fall of 2025.
