San Pedro Sula, Honduras.- The Mexican National Team clinched the leadership of Group B of the Under-20 World Cup and thus meet the Puerto Rican National Team, a country that avoided the group stage by participating in the preliminary tournament and qualifying for the round of 16 finally being the leader in its sector.
Luis Pérez’s team left some doubts in the face of this second round match, as they drew goalless against the Haitian National Team and that denied them the possibility of closing the group stage with perfect step where they thrashed Suriname (8-0) and Trinidad and Tobago (5-0).
The match that will host the Metropolitan Olympic Stadium, a venue that did not receive the assistance of the Tricolor in a good way in its last competition game, will be the last of the round of 16, so the winner will already know who will have to be measured in the next station.
It is in this round where the level will be a little more difficult for the National Team, because not only is a Confederation trophy at stake, but much more, the ticket to the Indonesian World Cup 2023 and, for the finalists, there will be an achievement extra.
The international championship will grant four places for the countries representing the Concacaf zone, so the Tricolor needs to reach the semifinals to ensure their arrival at the first World Cup that this country will organize, the twenty-third edition of the history of this division.
If the Aztec squad eliminates its opponents and becomes one of the two competitors that will fight for the Cup, it will qualify, along with its rival, for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Luis Pérez wants all three goals and that will start within some hours.
