The UN responded to the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the possibility of revising the Budapest Memorandum, according to which Kiev gave up nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees from Russia, the United States and Great Britain. This is reported TASS.
The official representative of the Secretary General of the organization, António Guterres, Stefan Dujarric, recalled his call for curbing the rhetoric that provokes tension.
Earlier, German Ambassador to Kiev Anka Feldhusen said that the Budapest Memorandum has no legal obligations. She noted, however, that in the current situation, every means should be tried to avoid war.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced his intention to initiate consultations within the framework of the Budapest Memorandum. According to the head of the Ukrainian state, if the summit of the countries participating in the Budapest Memorandum does not take place or does not provide security guarantees to Ukraine, then Kiev will recognize the document as invalid.
