Gaza (Union)
The Directorate of the United Nations World Food Program, Cindy McCain, said that parts of the Gaza Strip are witnessing a comprehensive famine, and it is rapidly spreading to other areas, after 7 months of war. McCain added that there is famine in northern Gaza, although her statements do not constitute an official declaration, and it is a complex bureaucratic process, according to the American newspaper “The New York Times.” She pointed out that “the north is witnessing a complete famine, which is heading towards the south.”
In this context, 88 Democrats in the US House of Representatives yesterday urged President Joe Biden to consider stopping arms supplies to Israel if the Israeli government does not change its management of its war in the Gaza Strip. In a letter delivered to the White House, members of Congress expressed “grave concerns about the Israeli government’s management of the war in Gaza with regard to its deliberate withholding of humanitarian assistance.” They stressed that the restrictions imposed by Israel on the delivery of humanitarian aid supported by Washington to Gaza “contributed to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.”
