Russia’s war in Ukraine doesn’t ignore animals in the stricken country either. Rescue workers have taken care of a kitten in need of help.
Borodyanka – Many cities in Ukraine are reduced to ruins by the violent invasion of Russia. Most of the people who once lived in the now-bombed homes have either fled or been attacked.
Some pets are forgotten or involuntarily left behind and are then left to fend for themselves. But a kitten in the Ukrainian city of Borodjanka near Kyiv probably did not want to accept this fate and drew attention to itself on April 6, 2022.
Ukraine war: Little kitten from ruins shows will to survive
“This small but very noisy kitten was found in the ruins of an apartment block in Borodyanka,” writes the Imago photo agency on the photos of the little fighter. The animal was “lonely and scared”, but absolutely wanted to live and “waited for its rescuers”.
A video posted by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine on Facebook shows the cat in a padded cardboard basket, busy cleaning itself. In another shot, an employee picks up the animal, which is still small enough to hold in one hand. The kitten then claws at the woman and makes squeaky meow sounds.
Ukraine: Rescued kitten now lives with rescue worker
The Facebook video has already been viewed more than 41,000 times (as of April 13, 2022, 10:00 a.m.). Over 900 people responded. “How beautiful he is,” one user commented on the video. “Such a self-sufficiency, we wash ourselves, put ourselves in order,” marvels another. “Oh what a darling,” reads a comment below a photo of the gray kitten.
The little cat now lives in the office of one of the medical rescuers from Kyiv, who definitely wants to keep her. Other animals meet a worse fate: a zoo near Kharkiv must put animals to sleep. (ial)
