Champions Final: towards another move of headquarters
The invasion of Ukraine by Russia also puts the world of football at risk. In fact, the main international competitions risk being overturned by the precipitate of events. In recent days, Uefa had already considered the possibility of moving the Champions League final, scheduled for May 28 in Saint Petersburg at the Gazprom Arena, moreover sponsored by one of those oil & gas giants on which the future of Europe and in particular of Italy depends. For the third consecutive year, after the two moves due to Covid, the European football government is looking for an emergency solution. There was talk of London, but the Wembley stadium will be occupied by the playoffs of the minor leagues. The rumor circulating in the last few hours is of a shift of these events to another London stadium (with Arsenal and Tottenham facilities in the front row), to leave the national stadium free for the Champions League final. The situation is still evolving and there is also talk of Amsterdam, Turin and Munich as possible alternative venues.
World playoffs: Poland does not want to go to Moscow
Even before the Champions League final, the problem of play-offs for the world cup. On March 24, the playoff between Russia and Poland and the president of the Polish football association is scheduled in Moscow Zibì Boniek, former Juve and Roma, asked for clarification on the opportunity to play despite the war. There are also no certainties on this, because the persistence of the conflict could even lead to disqualification of the Russian national team by FIFA. An official ruling is expected in the coming days, which could also be provisional: a move to a neutral field, pending sanctions that could also affect football.

The Ukrainian crisis is also shaking the individual protagonists of sport. The former AC Milan player Andriy Shevchenko, former coach of Ukraine and for a short time also of Genoa, posted on Facebook a real declaration of love for his country: “Ukraine is my homeland! I have always been proud of my people and my country! We have been through many difficult times and in the last 30 years we have formed as a nation! Nation of sincere citizens! This is our most important asset! Today is a difficult time for all of us. But we must unite! In unity we will win! Glory to Ukraine! ”.

Also Roman Yaremchuk, Benfica player, takes sides openly. After scoring the 2-2 goal in the Champions League match against Ajax, he showed a shirt depicting the “Tryzub”, symbol of his country.
