“Upon our arrival, immediately after the raid we found a dramatic situation: two wings of an apartment building had come down and we immediately got to work to save the survivors”. The spokesperson for the Ukrainian National Emergency Service in the Donetsk region tells Adnkronos how she faced the tragedy of the Chasovy Yar building hit by a Russian raid on the evening of 9 July, where the search for any survivors is still underway to be saved from under the rubble. “The attack – recalls Veronika Bahal – took place at 21.17. We arrived immediately on the spot, not even half an hour later. The rescuers have been working non-stop on site for two days since the attack. 160 tons of rubble were cleared, among which we found 30 lifeless bodies, while luckily 9 people were able to save them “.
“At the moment – continues the SES spokesperson – the rescuers are at work, there are 56 with 9 vehicles, we are still looking for 10 people, including a 9-year-old girl. We hope to find someone still alive, we work for this, too. because there was a basement in the building and we hope that the tenants were refugees there at the time of the explosions. Today we have saved two, so, two days later, there is still hope of finding more alive “.
As for the statements by Moscow, according to which in Chasiv Yar “a temporary deployment point of the 118th Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” was destroyed, the SES spokesperson replied that “we do not know that there were Ukrainian soldiers in the condominium , but checks are underway to identify the people found under the rubble “.
