On Monday, August 22, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) fired at the territory of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) using NATO ammunition. This was reported by the representative office of the republic in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire Regime (JCCC).
“At 03:45 in Donetsk (Budennovsky, Leninsky districts) ten shells of 155 mm caliber were fired,” the department’s publication on Telegram says.
Information about the victims of the shelling is not given.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine daily shell Donetsk and other settlements of Donbass. So, on August 20, it became known that during the attack of Ukrainian militants on the Kyiv region, a civilian was killed.
Prior to this, on August 14, two victims of the shelling of Donetsk by the AFU were reported. At the same time, a civilian was killed and a girl was injured due to a missile attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Energodar.
In turn, the Ministry of Defense reported that in the areas of the settlements of Opytnoe and Pervomayskoye DPR, more than 200 Ukrainian servicemen left their positions due to heavy losses.
The military department also noted that Ukrainian neo-Nazis continue to shell the liberated territories of the Kharkiv region. Due to the strikes of the militants, elderly people, women and children are killed and injured, the infrastructure of the houses of the inhabitants of the region is being destroyed, the Ministry of Defense stressed.
On February 24, Russia launched an operation to protect civilians in the Donbass. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation included the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the backdrop of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation, and on February 21, Russian leader Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR.
