“Ukraine has received security guarantees to give up the third largest nuclear arsenal in the world. We do not have weapons, but we have the right to demand a change of the truce policy to one that guarantees security and peace,” Zelensky said during the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.
The Ukrainian president also offered to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, with the aim of preventing any Russian invasion of his country.
“I don’t know what the Russian president wants,” he said. “That is why I propose that we meet.”
On the other hand, Zelensky adhered to his country’s desire to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
The Ukrainian president demanded a “clear” time frame for his country’s accession to the alliance, despite Russia’s strict rejection.
“What can we do? We can strongly support Ukraine and its defense capabilities by offering clear and workable timetables for its inclusion in the alliance,” he added.
