Ukraine, Zelensky has removed army chief Zaluzhny
The head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valery Zaluzhny, has been removed. This was announced by the Kiev Ministry of Defense. The news was awaited: for weeks we had been talking about disagreements between Zaluzhny and the Ukrainian president. Zelensky praised the work of General Valery Zalouzhny, now former head of the Ukrainian armed forces, offering him to remain in his “team”. “We talked about the changes that the armed forces need. We also discussed who could be part of the renewed command. The time for renewal is now. I proposed to General Zaluzhny to stay in the team,” the Kiev leader wrote on X.
“I expect changes in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the immediate future: a realistic and detailed action plan for 2024″ that “takes into account the actual situation on the current battlefield and the prospects”. The Ukrainian president then appointed General Oleksandr Syrsky as the new head of the Armed Forces, following the removal of Valery Zaluzhny.
