The authorities have assured that 90% of the city has been destroyed while Russia continues to advance in the region
The Ukrainian authorities have ordered this Friday their forces to withdraw from the town of Severodonetsk, located in the province of Lugansk (east) and one of the main epicenters of the fighting in recent days, before the advance of the Russian troops in the zone.
“The Armed Forces will leave Severodonetsk. Our defenders have already received the order,” said the head of the Lugansk Regional Administration, Serhiy Haidai, who noted that Russian forces “almost destroyed” the city, according to the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform.
“Critical infrastructure has been destroyed, 90 percent of the city has been damaged,” he detailed, while stressing that “80 percent of residential buildings will have to be demolished, since they cannot be restored. ».
On the other hand, he has acknowledged in a message published on his official account on the social network Facebook that Russian forces have taken control of the town of Nikolaevka, located in the area, while he has accused Russia of carrying out shelling of the cities of Lisichansk and Borivske«.
These advances by Russian troops come a day after the Ukrainian authorities confirmed that they had lost control of Loskutivka and Ray-Oleksandrivka, also around Severodonetsk, one of the main objectives of Moscow’s offensive in the Donbas region. .
