Ukraine’s latest attacks on the Russian Black Sea Fleet, in Crimea, and on the Chkalovsky air base worry Moscow. In recent days the port of Sevastopol has been increasingly targeted by Kiev, and even today a missile raid hit the Fleet headquarters, killing a Russian soldier. “The fragment of a missile fell near the Lunacharsky Theater,” Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev said on his Telegram channel, specifying that all emergency services had arrived at the scene.
Moscow worried about attacks
“It is very likely that the Russian Black Sea Fleet has again been heavily targeted and that the explosions at the Chkalovsky air base, near Moscowconstitute the most strategic concern for Russian leaders,” British Intelligence wrote on the Ministry of Defense in London, it is the air base that worries Moscow the most, being “a sensitive place because it hosts specialized military aircraft and transport for Russian leaders“.
Furthermore, the intelligence report continues, “explosions were reported at Russian logistics sites, air bases and command posts in Crimea, the Krasnodar region and near Moscow.”
Russian submarine and ship hit
A few days ago, a Ukrainian attack on a Sevastopol shipyard carried out with Storm Shadow cruise missiles hit a Russian ship and submarine. According to Russian military blogger Rybar the missiles were launched from Su-24M aircraft over the Black Sea. Rybar adds that air defenses, including a Pantsir-S1, shot down seven missiles, but admits that “unfortunately, three Storm Shadow missiles reached their target: the landing ship Minsk and the submarine Rostov-on-Don, which were in dry dock, suffered varying degrees of damage.”
The Rostov-on-Don is a relatively modern Kilo-class submarine capable of carrying Kalibr cruise missiles. There is still no official confirmation of the extent of the damage caused. “After a long pause, cruise missile attacks on Crimea resumed,” Rybar says. “With a high degree of probability, the raids will continue in the coming days, and not only in Sevastopol.”
