Danny Noppert has reached the semi-finals of the UK Open. The Frisian darts player won in a mediocre match against the Australian Damon Heta: 10-5.
Noppert didn’t even score an extremely high average (almost 96 points), but that was still about seven points higher than his opponent’s. Damon Heta in particular was no longer a shadow of the unleashed darter who stopped Michael van Gerwen earlier this tournament.
Heta won the first leg of the match, but didn’t take the lead after that. Noppert ran out to 3-1 and placed two more breaks in a row at 4-2. At 8-2, Heta recovered somewhat with a neat leg and at 9-4 the Australian threw his first 100+ finish in Noppert’s leg. It was the first break for the Australian, but a comeback was out of the question.
In the semi-finals of the FA Cup of darts, Noppert will face the winner of the match between Michael Smith and Gerwyn Price. The other semifinal will be between Barry Keane, who surprisingly knocked out James Wade, and William O’Connor. The semi-finals and the final will be played later today.
