Several dozen people gathered this Thursday at the doors of the Extremadura Assembly to demand that the Autonomous Community’s Budget for 2025 be included in bonus to public employees in the region of 2 percent pending since 2020.
A concentration that has been approached by the Minister of Finance and Public Administration, Elena Manzano, who has conveyed to those responsible for UGT that “the debt is recognized by this government” despite the fact that has not generated itand recalled that the previous PSOE government “went to court”, which did not agree with it.
“It is a debt owed by Mr. Vara,” recalled the Minister of the Treasury, who pointed out that this debt has a impact of 25 million eurosfor which he has called for “responsibility”, to pay this debt in several annuities “without putting other services at risk.”
UGT rejects payment in five annual installments
The general secretary of UGT SP, Manuel Fernández Colomo, has shown in statements to the media the “anger” of the union because “once again, public employees We once again suffer the decisions of the two governments“, both the previous one from the PSOE, which “decided in the middle of the pandemic to take away the 2% salary increase for that year”, and the current one, from the PP, which proposes payment in five annual installments.
“We are the only community and the only Administration that was not paid 2% at a time when the crisis was used as an excuse,” lamented Fernández Colomo, who pointed out that “now that it has passed, the collection is going up, that on top of that there is a surplus in the public accounts, what cannot be proposed to us at the general negotiation table is payment in five annual installments.
In that case “we would go to 2029”, which means “a loss of the value of what is owed to us from this year 2020 and, above all, it is a injustice” for public employees who “were on the front line during the pandemic”, a situation that “they will not allow.”
For her part, the Secretary of Union Action of UGT, María Ángeles Rodríguez, recalled that this Thursday is the first of the four concentrations that the union has called, which will continue on November 21, and on December 5 and 19, coinciding with the plenary sessions of the Assembly.
“What we want is that apart from recognizing” that debt, that “is paid and paid in a single annual payment“, since public employees have been “bearing for five years now since the debt owed to them”, which is why it has been considered “justice that, in fact, it is already paid in an annuity”.
As Rodríguez has pointed out, they cannot “in any way, allow us to go to five years”, since “there are no possible excuses”, and “what we want is for it to be paid now”, because right now there is a surplus in the accounts “and, therefore, it is possible, he concluded.
