Season 2022-2023
The group stage will be played in less than two months, between September and November, for the Qatar World Cup
The Qatar World Cup, which will be played between November 21 and December 18, has forced UEFA to compress the 2022-2023 Champions League, whose group stage will be played in less than two months, when it has usually been carried out in almost three. The first phase of the Champions League, with four Spanish teams (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético and Sevilla), will be played between September 6 and November 2, with hardly any free weeks of European competition or national teams during that period prior to World.
UEFA made public this Tuesday the dates of the six rounds of the group stage, distributed between Tuesday and Wednesday, with Thursdays destined again for the Europa League (Betis and Real Sociedad) and the Conference League (Villarreal). When the qualifiers for the knockout stages of the Champions League are defined, the top continental competition will have a winter break of almost four months, since the first direct knockout round will not be played until mid-February (first legs), with the second legs in March. The quarterfinals will be played in April, the semifinals in early May, and the final on June 10 in Istanbul.
