The bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and its sister, the Sultanate of Oman, for more than four decades, are a model for what should be the relations between brothers, whether at the bilateral level or within the framework of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf. The relationship of the two countries embodies the unity of destiny. In the past, the wise leadership in the two brotherly countries provided strong will and continuous support to push the deep and solid relations between them to broad horizons that would place them in the rank of special and distinguished relations at various levels, which reflected a level of distinction and sophistication that rarely characterizes relations between countries.
The relationship between the two brotherly peoples is characterized by strength and solidity, in addition to exchanging views on the current developments and developments at the Gulf, Arab and international levels, and issues of common interest, driven by deep-historic relations with neighborhoods, intermarriage, and rich social extensions through time.
The historic visit of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, to the Sultanate of Oman in 1991, embodied a new starting point in the brotherly relations of the two brotherly countries. He affirmed the sincere and intimate brotherhood of the people of the UAE and the Omani people, and a deep appreciation for Sultan Qaboos. The Sultanate has the strongest historical ties, in the past, present and future, and they are deep-rooted ties between the two countries that are keen to strengthen the bonds of cooperation between them for the benefit of the two peoples.

The agreements signed between the two countries come within the framework of the brotherly relations that bind the two countries and the two brotherly peoples, which are based on ties of kinship, ties of affection, one family, and good neighborliness. It is well-established and able to deal and interact strongly and positively with the requirements of the present and move towards a better future. This cooperation has led to all fields, allowing the citizens of the two countries to achieve more cohesion, cooperation and continuous work for the benefit of their countries, investing the various possibilities available to maintain their security, stability and prosperity.
Higher Committee for Cooperation
In order to enhance the efforts, the Joint Committee was established based on the desire of both countries to develop and enhance effective cooperation between them on the principle of mutual and common interest in various fields, and in implementation of the directives of the leaderships of the two countries, the establishment of the Joint Higher Committee for Cooperation between the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman was announced in May 1991 .
Its first meetings began in November of 1991, and it included the following areas of cooperation: “Cooperation in the field of automated connectivity at land ports, cooperation in land transport of passengers and goods, cooperation in the field of capital markets, cooperation in the field of consumer protection, cooperation in the field of the marine environment, Cooperation in the field of electrical interconnection, cooperation in the field of civil aviation, cooperation in the field of civil service, cooperation in the field of education, and cooperation in the field of health.
Brotherhood approach
The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and Sultan Qaboos believed that relations based on the approach of brotherhood remain forever, and the fruits of which are passed on to generations. In the national celebrations, each of the two peoples expresses their happiness and love for the other people in these celebrations, an embodiment of the strong brotherly relationship between them, which they established decades ago.
The close historical relations between the two countries and peoples were characterized by strength and depth, aiming at strengthening cooperation and joint coordination in all fields, which reflects the ideal image of the close cooperation relations between the countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, to achieve common interests, provide a decent life and prosperity for their peoples at various levels, and even protect Generations of anything disturbing these relations, and there is no evidence of that from the signing of a border demarcation agreement between the UAE and Oman in 1999.
Shared history
The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and Sultan Qaboos laid strong foundations for joint cooperation and close relations between the two countries.
