The Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority has announced granting 1.2 million dirhams to finance 5 important research projects in the field of early childhood development, with the participation of researchers and academics from local and international higher education institutions, as part of its efforts to develop and implement a strategy for research and studies in the field of early childhood development to guide the development of policy-based policies. It is based on evidence, support planning and quality improvement, with the aim of enabling the comprehensive development process of children and enhancing their well-being from pregnancy until the age of eight, focusing on key sectors including health and nutrition, child protection, family support, in addition to early education and care.
The research projects to be funded will address two studies aimed at finding out the causes of frequent school absenteeism among young children in Abu Dhabi. and Dr. Ghada Al-Murshidi, Associate Principal Investigator, while the second study will be supervised by Dr. Brian Ashdown from the American University of Sharjah.
The support also includes two research projects to assess the knowledge and behavior of health professionals in relation to supporting young children of determination and their families in Abu Dhabi, where the first project is supervised by a research team from the Emirates College for Educational Development led by Dr. Co-principal, Amina Al Jasmi, PI, Dr. Claudagh Murray, PI, and Dr. Brian Roche, PI, while the second research project on this topic is being supervised by a scientific team from the United Arab Emirates University comprising of Dr. Emma Pearson, Investigator Principal, Dr. Rami Al-Refai, PI, Dr. Rachel Al-Tikriti, PI, Dr. Maria Efstratopoulou, PI, Dr. Ashraf Mustafa, PI, Dr. Maxwell Opoko, PI, Prof. Hala Al-Huwairis, PI, and Umniah Gharib Al-Qahtani, Associate Principal Investigator.
While the fifth research project seeks to assess the extent of language development in children with speech and language development disorders, it is supervised by a research team from the United Arab Emirates University led by Dr. Demetrius Netilithos, Principal Investigator, and Dr. Alexandra Marques, Associate Principal Investigator.
