Since Disney released the trailer for “The Little Mermaid”, the look of Halle Bailey What Ariel It has revived the debate on networks. The live action film, which is still far from its premiere, has unleashed a wave of reactions with a marked racist connotation. However, the controversy has gone a step further with a deepfake teaser that has been circulating on Twitter.
The user identified as @Vandalibm shared a controversial clip on his account of the aforementioned social network. The AI-powered footage originally created by @TenGazillionIQ shows Bailey singing “Part of It,” alongside an altered scene featuring a young woman with radically different features than the artist.
Not only the video is what has generated outrage, but also the caption that accompanies it. “He fixed ‘The Little Mermaid’ and turned the woke actress into a redheaded white girl,” part of the post reads.
Of course, the reactions were immediate and the post even caught the attention of Yvette Nicole Brown, who you will recognize from her role as Helen in “Drake and Josh”.
“It’s the phrase ‘fixed’ that fails for me. There is nothing in real life nor in the movies nor in the beautiful Halle Bailey that needs to be ‘fixed,’ ” Brown wrote in his comment.
For now, it is known that the @vandalibm account has been suspended on Twitter. However, the reasons behind the penalty are not necessarily clear: it may have been for an obvious racist act or for infringing copyright by uploading official Disney material.
Even so, the same is expected to happen with the other profile mentioned, due to the visible intentions of their posts.
