Paid Verification is exclusive to Twitter Blue users and costs $7.99 per month; not yet available in Brazil
Twitter started making platform verification available this Saturday (5.Nov.2022) to users who pay for the service. O “blue seal” costs US$ 7.99 per month (R$ 40 at this Saturday’s price) and is exclusive to subscribers to Twitter Bluenot yet available in Brazil.
The update was published on the iOS system app store this Saturday. “Your account will receive a blue badge, as will the celebrities, companies and politicians you already follow”wrote the company.
According to Twitter, subscribers should also have new benefits soon – such as reduced number of ads, the ability to post longer videos and also the ability to set a ranking of interaction priorities in the social network, such as responses, mentions and searches.
Twitter Blue launched in June 2021 in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Before the last adjustment, it cost US$ 4.99 (R$ 25).
The announcement comes 4 days after businessman Elon Musk, who bought Twitter for $44 billion in late October, communicate that the stamp would be charged on the social network. “Twitter’s current lords and peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue badge is ‘crap’. Power to the people! [Selo] blue for $8/month”wrote Musk on Tuesday (Nov.1).
At the time, he also said that the price would be adjusted according to the “purchasing power parity” from each country. There is no definition of the price charged or the date of arrival of the service in Brazil.
Twitter’s change in direction led to a wave of layoffs at the company’s headquarters around the world. On Friday (4.nov), some units suspended activities after announcing to employees that they would receive an email by the end of the day informing them whether or not they were fired.
The move led dozens of companies to suspend ads on Twitter. Among the services that left the social network are Oreo, Pfizer, Audi, Volkswagen, Disney, Häagen-Dazs and General Motors.
On Friday, Musk confirmed that the company was revamping the internal staff and justified “no choice” while the company was losing “$4 million a day”.
Since negotiating the purchase of Twitter, Musk claimed to want to turn the social network into a tool for “complete freedom of expression”. He criticized the regulations made against hate speech and questioned the “censorship” imposed by Twitter’s rules of conduct.
