Twitch announced that his ban system is going to be completely renewed and that there will be greater clarity on the reasons for the measures taken against streamers.
Twitch’s ban system is known for its obscurity. Often those who are banned can only try to guess why they were sanctioned. Recently there has been a big controversy over the bans due to the word “cracker“. The controversy involved many top streamers, who complained about the arbitrariness of the provision and the difficulty of staying within the rules when these concern such common words. In short, the risk is to be suddenly banned without even understanding the reason, given that hardly anyone could hypothesize that such a word is punishable.
Twitch VP Angela Hessian told the Washington Post that the platform is working behind the scenes to have ban notifications accompanied by explanatory videos that make the reason for the provision clearly understood. Hessian spoke of “more details”, so in addition to the videos there could also be more specific textual indications than the current ones, but nothing specific has been said about it. However, in this way streamers will be able to appeal more easily, in case they deem the bans unfair, and will be able to communicate more clearly to their fanbase the reasons for the departure.
Currently, those who are banned will only receive an email stating that they violated the rules, with no description of what they said or did.
