After two years of being veiled due to the emerging Corona virus pandemic, the Mediterranean Film Festival “Manarat” returns to spread its red carpet on the sands of Tunisia’s beaches, receiving filmmakers and fans from Arab and foreign countries.
The third edition of the festival, whose performances are held in the open air, will start on August 30 and will last for four days, with the participation of about 80 guests from the Mediterranean countries.
“The festival preserved its out-of-the-ordinary privacy by showing films on the shores of the sea and not in cinema halls,” said Nidal Shata, director of the new session, in a press conference on Wednesday.
He added that one of the organizers’ goals is to make “Manarat” a platform for developing the works of filmmakers from the Mediterranean countries and their projects in partnership with the festival.
The festival program includes 30 fiction, documentary and short films from ten countries, including Tunisia, Lebanon, France and Spain.
Performances are held on the beaches of Rades and Zahra in Tunis, the tourist city of Hammamet and the city of Bizerte in the far north of the country.
On the sidelines of the festival, lectures, training workshops and discussion sessions will be held at the Center for Arab and Mediterranean Music (Najma Ezzahra) in Sidi Bou Said.
The Mediterranean Film Festival “Manarat” was established in 2018 under the supervision of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the National Center for Cinema and Image, with the aim of supporting film exchange between Mediterranean countries.
