Tunisia is witnessing intense political movements in preparation for the presidential elections scheduled to be held next fall. In this context, five political parties are seeking to form a new political bloc to support President Kais Saied, and to confront the attempts of the Brotherhood’s “Ennahda” movement to return once again to the political scene through the presidential election. The new political bloc includes the “July 25 Track” party, the “Tunisia Forward Movement,” the “Popular Movement,” the “People’s Movement,” and the “July 25 Movement.”
The Union polled the opinions of some political observers and analysts on this matter, as Tunisian analyst and university professor Manal Wassalati explained that in this case it is expected that some political parties and movements will rally around President Saied, given the popularity he enjoys among political and societal circles, and from here came the idea. The new political bloc. Wesalati told Al-Ittihad: President Saied has not belonged to any political party since he assumed the presidency in 2019, so the new party alliance to support him could be something that is not pivotal for him, and does not add much to his popularity.
On October 13, 2019, Kais Saied won a 5-year presidential term, and received more than 70% of the voters’ votes in the run-off election against his competitor, Nabil Karoui.
Wesalati stressed the difficulty of the Brotherhood’s “Nahda” group returning to the political arena again, due to its failure to achieve compatibility between religious principles and political performance, and because Tunisia witnessed a decline in economic and social conditions during its rule, in addition to the spread of administrative and political corruption during that period, and therefore it is It is impossible for it to regain its position again.
In turn, Tunisian political activist Suhaib Al-Mazriqi explained that the presidential elections constitute an important national milestone that the Tunisian people are waiting for to exercise their electoral and democratic right to choose who represents them at the top of the state, as well as the parties supporting the July 25 process and supporting President Saied.
Al-Muzariqi stated in a statement to Al-Ittihad that many political forces and popular circles are working to block the way for the return of the previous system of the Brotherhood, represented by the Ennahdha Movement and its allies, which is evident in the statements and positions of many political parties and movements.
The Tunisian political activist pointed out that there is a trend that rejects the return of the “Brotherhood” to the political scene, and seeks to bring about a radical change in the character of the regime so that it is social in approach and national in orientation, after it was during the era of the “Brotherhood” a pivotal regime linked to external forces and international organizations that control Tunisian affairs. This made the parties supporting President Saied move to form a political front with a common basis for action.
