“Dragon Boat has historically been an activity focused on the importance of shoulder girdle activity for the prevention of lymphedema and the rehabilitation of women who have undergone breast surgery, and on the teamwork that associations create, which is essential for improving the treatment options we offer women.” This is how Giuliana D’Auria, an oncologist at the Local Health Authority Roma 2 (Asl Rm2), explains the importance of the CardioBreast Dragon Boat Festival that took place in Rome, at the Eur lake. For the oncologist, it is “a fundamental event” focused “on prevention, which is essential for breast cancer, and on physical activity, for the healing and rehabilitation process of women who have undergone breast surgery.”
The event, which combines sport and awareness, is promoted by the National Institute of Cardiovascular Research (Inrc) with the collaboration of the Italian Dragon Boat Federation (Fidb) and the unconditional contribution of Daiichi Sankyo Italia, and sees the participation of the Breast Cancer Paddlers (the pink paddlers) who compete amicably throughout Italy to promote the prevention of cardiovascular and oncological diseases. By October, the initiative, born in 2022, will bring its messages of prevention and support to patients with oncological pathologies to three other Italian regions: Piedmont (Turin), Tuscany (Florence) and Sicily (Palermo).
