The name can only arouse sympathy in our latitudes, because Trumpchi remembers in a very clear and undeniable way the surname of the former President of the United States Donald Trump. But going beyond this easy consonance, there is a car brand which has strong ambitions on the Chinese market and a great desire to innovate.
At the salon of Guangzhou, which is contemporary to that of Los Angeles (they both occupy the last ten days of November), Trumpchi and the group that manages the brand, that is GAC, they took off the veils on the Emkoo concept, a very different car, except in outline for the front, to the current design line for the models of the brand, of which we show some recent examples in the gallery below.
The gull-wing concept mixes the electrified world with a definitely cutting-edge design language. The prototype is fascinating in particular for the full coverage of the tires and the very low line of the pillars. It is an SUV but rather softened in the upper part and with a decidedly scenic front visual impact. It almost feels like an unconventional fastback. Another interesting factor for the development of this futuristic model is the openness to customers: GAC Trumpchi has in fact invited motorists to give ‘ideas’ on how the car of the future could be, and the plan provides for an effective use of the requests that will be made. It is a project that mixes customer, creativity and sharing, as the executives of the Chinese manufacturer say.
In the model, in which there is no lack of autonomous driving potential, however, several distinctive elements can already be listed. Such as an infotainment system equipped with Qualcomm 8155P technology and the use of three lidar systems connected to 12 high-definition cameras and 12 ultrasonic radars. It is now time to stop treating Chinese manufacturers as protagonists of an ‘exotic’ market, but as real players in the automotive sector able to find new ideas in terms of design and technology.
