Former American President Donald Trump would win the United States elections in five of the six key states that will presumably define the presidency on November 5, according to a series of polls published this Monday (13) by the newspaper The New York Times.
The reputation of the current president, Joe Biden, continues to be damaged by a desire for change, dissatisfaction with the economy and the war in the Middle East, the newspaper said.
Research carried out from April 28th to May 9th, in partnership with Siena College and The Philadelphia Inquirerwith a sample of 4 thousand people indicate that the Democratic president is losing support especially among young, black and Hispanic voters, a large part of his electoral base.
Meanwhile, Trump is ahead in five of the six key states: Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania. Of the swing states (which, given their close results, will likely define the presidency), Biden would only win Wisconsin.
This is data from registered voters, which are those who, in response to a standard survey question, say they are “registered to vote in their voting district.”
The survey, according to the newspaper, reveals widespread voter dissatisfaction with the country’s management and serious doubts about Biden’s ability to make significant improvements in American life. For example, nearly 70% of voters say the country’s political and economic systems need major changes or even complete reform.
Polls suggest that Trump’s strength among young, non-white voters has, at least temporarily, altered the electoral map, with the Republican gaining a significant lead in the states of Arizona, Georgia and Nevada.
Still, the former president will have to overcome several obstacles, including abortion, which is “one of his greatest vulnerabilities”, says the newspaper. Thus, 64% of voters in contested states said abortion should always or almost always be legal, including 44% of Trump supporters.
For Biden, the main challenge is the war in the Gaza Strip and the unconditional support that the US has given to Israel so far. About 13% of voters who said they voted for Biden last time say they will not vote for him again because of his foreign policy or the war in Gaza.
