Elvi Kuokkanen, 38, wrote as a high school student after studying in high school for a good two years. In addition, Kuokkanen did his day job at the post office, where he has worked for several years.
Naturally, she also takes care of her family, which includes her husband and three children under the age of 10.
Elvi Kuokkanen’s school is a course-style evening high school in Lieksa, which works based on correspondence education. Helsinki won’t get one until next year.
Lieksa’s evening school includes both middle school and high school. Studying takes place as guided self-study, correspondence study, which the students complete through the National Enlightenment Society’s correspondence school, and oral courses, which are organized in Lieksa a few times a year, in periods of a few weeks. – –
Anja Ikonen, 29, is a laudatur student. Anja, who works in a tax office, became interested in reading after a break of more than ten years. The family includes an 11-year-old son.
“Of course, it was crazy to be working and reading at the same time. The day job is never so easy that you can easily switch from it to studying,” says Ikonen.
But exciting. “Everything he does, he does to himself.”
Hand out to the people
Riitta-Eliisa Laine
Hard the momentum will be seen again this summer, when the main staff’s entertaining strike group operates in different parts of Finland. It is already a tradition of reaching out to the general public. With the help of entertainment, the aim is to bring the defense forces closer to the people.
The initial event was seen at Linnanmäki, where, despite the cold late spring evening, the crowd was full of open air.
“Iskelmäpojat” is a band made up of boys from the Suomenlinna Coastal Artillery Regiment. Jarkko Antikainen — the other half of the duo Jarkko & Laura — bass player Juha Laitila (Pirjo’s brother), drummer Parkkonen and Tom Pynnönen, whose bravura numbers include Rock á la Pelvis Resley.
Jouko and Kostikin are currently still in the army and operating in Linnanmäki.
Jukka Kuoppamäki was on stage with the band Castanja, which almost everyone is in love with.
Kuoppamäki’s “Sininen ja valvain” was one of the absolute favorites of the evening. It’s starting to have an almost semi-official status in the military among all the traditional musical numbers, I hear.
The SA—INT Show will be seen at Linnanmäki again on August 13.
Myyrmäki school will be ready in the fall
Vantaa the school situation will be easier this year, as new school buildings are about to be completed. The first to be completed is the Myyrmäki public school, which will be put into use next fall. 960 students can study at Myyrmäki public school.
The Mikkola public school of the Jokivarre school district is also scheduled to be completed next fall. The classrooms should be ready by the beginning of the fall semester.
The construction of the part of the gymnasium of the Vaaralan–Hakunila national school is planned to start at the end of this year.
Two co-educational schools are also under construction in Vantaa; both Peltola and Rekola co-educational schools are expected to be completed during this school year.
There is a lack of school buildings in Vantaa, even though new schools are being built. Especially in new residential areas, schoolchildren often have to study in temporary shelters.
The police seized copies of porn magazines from two printing houses
Tampere (HS)
Police confiscated porn magazines directly from Tampere printers. The printed products ordered by the Tampere shopkeeper were black-and-white offset magazines, apparently copies of foreign magazines.
Based on a tip received by the police, the warehouses of the tobacco and antique store Tammer-Luola were inspected and two small print shops were visited. About 370 foreign porn magazines that were on sale were confiscated from Tammer-Luola.
Three hundred printed magazines were found. Both printing houses had produced magazines as usual custom work. The other had given up the job in the middle after finding the project questionable. In that case, the customer had taken the printing work to another printing house. That too had left the job unfinished.
According to the store, the confiscated magazines were brochures that provided information about the industry’s products. Brochures have been distributed by post to those who wish.

Poll on cable television: Half agree, half don’t
Nearly according to an opinion survey, half of Helsinki residents consider cable television necessary. But almost half also think that cable TV is not needed.
Finland’s Gallup interviewed almost six hundred residents of the Helsinki region at the turn of the year on behalf of Helsinki Cable Television Oy.
Since the concept of cable television is probably unclear to many, half of the interviewees received a short summary of the characteristics of cable television at least a week before the interview. However, only one in two of these had familiarized themselves with the sent material. – –
As a disadvantage, a quarter of the respondents mentioned the cost of cable television. Seven percent thought that cable television was a potentially dangerous propaganda tool, and four percent considered advertising a disadvantage.
All of Ulster will soon run out of petrol and electricity
London (Erkki Arni)
of Ulster the already difficult way of life was almost at a standstill on Thursday, when the gasoline ran out after the strikers blocked transport.
The city of Londonderry ran out of commercial gas on Thursday almost completely, when the gas plants do not receive fuel. Parcel mail delivery in the province has been stopped and there are disturbances in telephone traffic.
The blockade of the ultra-Protestant Ulster Workers’ Council, or UWC, had already been extended to the distribution of liquid fuels on Wednesday. Already by Thursday, this blockade tactic proved to be the most effective. Only a few gas stations were left to distribute fuel to motorists. – –
One lady from Belfast has told how she prepared the only warm meal of the day – a roast – for her family at three in the morning, because that was the only time when there was even a couple of hours of electricity.
Children will soon not be sent to school due to street closures and the risk of riots. You can wait in line for a couple of hours at the grocery store. When you get to the counter, you get permission to take what the merchant has to offer, and it’s not much either. Money is also scarce when there is no salary.
A good pacifier is known but a bad one is used
Jyrki Maunula
Every a Finnish newborn baby gets a pacifier in his mouth as a gift from society, which experts consider completely undesirable.
The teat of the water bottle in the maternity aid kit may cause errors in the position of the growing teeth, distortions and bad sucking and swallowing habits.
In the councils, there has been a war against old-fashioned pacifiers for years. Future mothers have been instructed to accept only anatomically correctly shaped pacifiers in their little one’s mouth, which imitate their natural model, the mother’s nipple, as closely as possible.
The commercial director of the State Procurement Center says that this is the first time he has heard about the wrong shape of the pacifiers in the maternity benefit packages. The possible bite of dentists has happened year after year among the profession without the information reaching the decision-makers.

Loviisa the costs of the first nuclear power plant are expected to rise by almost half of the level announced three years ago. Completion of the nuclear power plant according to the schedule is also uncertain.
According to current cost estimates, it will cost about 800 million marks, while its costs were estimated at 550 million back in 1971.
HS does not publish the list of names of graduates
Student essays after the results have been transferred to computer processing, the names of the new graduates will be available and published as a complete and correctly checked list only about a week after the information has been announced to the graduates themselves in the schools.
For this reason, Helsingin Sanomat does not publish the list of names of new graduates – which, for example, this spring will contain around 25,000 names.
Nixon’s evidence does not satisfy
Washington (UPI)
of the United States House Judiciary Committee Chief Counsel John Doar on Thursday questioned the accuracy of the tapes released by President Richard Nixon.
Doar told reporters that he raised his own doubts about the 1,254-page manuscripts during a closed-door hearing of the Legislative Committee on Thursday. He said he told the congressmen that “as far as I can remember, this kind of evidence does not meet the requirements of the Constitution.”
Nixon handed over to the committee only the material extracted from the tapes and not the tapes themselves, which the committee had demanded from him by virtue of a subpoena.
