Initially, the work was to be completed on a Sunday afternoon.
On the main line traffic is crossed between Tampere and Toijala until approximately this morning. Trains will be replaced by buses. However, there may be challenges in accessing buses and passengers are asked to be prepared for delays.
The replacement of the railway bridge between Toijala and Tampere is expected to be completed by about 11 a.m., says Fintraffic’s railway traffic center. The work was originally scheduled to be completed by 3pm on Sunday.
VR has previously estimated that night trains waiting for the track to open will be delayed by about 4 to 12 hours.
In train traffic there were already numerous delays on Sunday, and even then VR replaced several train journeys in the middle of the Midsummer return service. Hundreds of passengers had to change from train to buses between Tampere and Toijala.
On Sunday, VR suspended the sale of train tickets for trains between Tampere and Toijala.
According to VR, ticket purchasers are allowed to change or cancel travel tickets free of charge on train services affected by track works.
