New production stop for Toyota in the Old Continent. The Japanese auto giant has indeed announced that the brand’s plant in Kolin, in the Czech Republic, will stop production for the month of February due to new bottlenecks in the supply of parts. “Due to the shortage of components in the supply chain, we will be forced to temporarily suspend production from January 31st,” explained plant manager Tomas Paroubek. The Japanese company had invested 180 million euros to grow the plant, with the expansion of the site allowing for a 35% increase in production capacity.
Since taking full control of the factory, previously controlled by the joint venture with the PSA Group, Toyota has sought to ramp up the pace, ramping up to 202,255 cars produced last year at the plant some 60km east of Prague. factory exploits the potential of the platform Toyota New Global Architecture B, dealing with the assembly of the new Aygo X and the Yaris, also produced in Valenciennes, France. Automotive production represents a large part of the Czech Republic’s economy: as pointed out by the sector association, in 2021 there was a 10% growth with 1.2 million vehicles produced thanks to the contribution of Skoda but also of Hyundai .
