Totoministri, clash over Salvini: “We don’t want him, he’s close to Putin”
“Matteo Salvini will have a fundamental role”. After the sensational flop in Sunday’s elections, the League’s federal council yesterday confirmed its confidence in its secretary, supporting the request for “a heavy ministry” for the Captain, as declared by the group leader in the House, Riccardo Molinari. A response to the veto that the Brothers of Italy would have placed on Salvini’s name for the leadership of any key ministry, primarily that of the Interior. Il Carroccio is in fact aiming at the visibility of the executive to gain the ground lost in public opinion, as underlined in the official note released after yesterday’s council: “the League will be able to recover consensus thanks to the results it will achieve in the center-right government – and Matteo Salvini will have a fundamental role – starting also from listening to the territory and valuing the many administrators, starting with the governors ”.
According to a background from La Stampa, the most Atlanticist exponents of the party led by Giorgia Meloni, however, have no doubts about Salvini’s exclusion. “How can one go to Washington with a heavy minister who wanted to have flights to Moscow bought by the Russian embassy?”, The sentence reported by the Turin daily.
For the moment, the hypothesis circulating within FdI is that of exhuming the figure of the two deputy premieres, already present during the first Conte government. In this case the task would go to the leaders of the two allied parties: the coordinator of Forza Italia Antonio Tajani and Salvini himself, who would return to the old role of when he was also Minister of the Interior.
The name of Tajani is brought up for several other prominent positions: the most coveted would be the leadership of the Foreign Ministry. As an alternative to the former president of the European parliament, the presidency of the Chamber or the Ministry of Defense could go. The latter department could also return to the co-founder of FdI Ignazio La Russa, also in the running for the presidency of the Senate, together with the Northern League player Roberto Calderoli.
Still in Lega, the name of Giulia Bongiorno is mentioned, who could return to the ministry of public administration, as during the first Conte government, rather than to Justice, where the name of Carlo Nordio stands out.
At the height of Forza Italia circulate the names of Anna Maria Bernini, the former president of the Senate Elisabetta Casellati and Licia Ronzulli, who could go to the Ministry of Education. The former force fighter Lucio Malan, who moved to FdI, is instead the main candidate for relations with parliament. Another former member of Forza Italia who could join the Fratelli d’Italia government at a quota is Raffaele Fitto, who would return from the European Parliament to take over the leadership of the Ministry of Community Policies.
Among the technicians, the names of Elisabetta Belloni, head of the Security Information Department (Dis) and former secretary general of the Farnesina and of the ambassador Stefano Pontecorvo for the foreign ministry continue to be mentioned, together with that of the former minister Giulio Terzi of Santagata. Inside, instead, the prefect of Rome Matteo Piantedosi, former chief of staff of Salvini, or the former prefect of the capital, Giuseppe Pecoraro, considered closer to Meloni, could go. For the Ministry of Labor, on the other hand, the name of the sociologist Luca Ricolfi was mentioned. The crucial issue remains that of the Economy: second The Corriere della Sera Meloni would have already received a no from Fabio Panetta, who currently sits on the executive committee of the European Central Bank, and would aspire to the presidency of the Bank of Italy after Ignazio Visco, whose term expires next year. The alternative would be Domenico Siniscalco, who had already become minister during the second and third Berlusconi government, after the resignation of Giulio Tremonti. Another possible technical minister could be the former president of Confindustria Antonio D’Amato, at the helm of Economic Development.
