Brazil exported 236,842 tons of beef last April, which corresponds to the highest volume ever recorded in the country’s monthly exports. Revenue was US$1.043 billion, a figure that also places the month among the best in terms of results. The data is released by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), compiled and released on Thursday, 9, by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec).
China, with shipments of 101,031 tons, remains the main market last month. In terms of revenue, the numbers reached US$454 million in April. The second largest buyer of Brazilian beef was the United Arab Emirates, with 23,719 tons in April.
In terms of revenue, exports totaled US$ 109.7 million last month. Hong Kong was Brazil’s third largest partner, importing 11,327 tons, with 38.9% growth compared to March/2024, with the majority of products being beef offal.
Accumulated from 2024
Year to date, the total volume shipped by Brazil was 835,328 tons, an increase of 37.2% compared to the same period in 2023.
In revenue, there was a growth of 29.5%, from US$2.8 billion in the first four months of 2023 to US$3.68 billion this year.
In the first four months of 2024, fresh meat exports accounted for 88% of the total exported, followed by offal, with 7.09%, and processed meat, with 3.7% of the total in volume.
The executive president of Abiec, Antônio Jorge Camardelli, said in the statement that the diversification of markets and exported products continues as a movement in the sector. “China continues to purchase an average volume of 95 thousand tons per month, confirming that it is a great partner for Brazil, but other markets were also highlighted in the increase in the average volume shipped this year”, he reported.
On average for 2024, the United Arab Emirates purchased more than triple the volume of 2023, totaling 64,787 tons between January and April, with revenues of US$298.2 million. In the first four months of 2024, shipments to Algeria totaled 20,287 tons. In revenue, the sum reaches US$ 92.7 million.
Shipments to the Philippines reached 19,411 tons this four months, with revenues of US$68.03 million. With the recent new qualifications, increasing shipment volumes are expected in the coming months.
Mexico was another big highlight, according to Camardelli. “The country is among those that most recently approved beef trade with Brazil and in four months shipments have already totaled 12,428 tons this year,” he highlighted.
For markets such as Chile, Russia, Israel, Libya, Jordan, Lebanon, among others, exports also grew this year. Chile bought 10.6% more meat, Russia 33.2% more, Israel increased 13.2%, Libya 37%, Jordan 102% and Lebanon 147% increase.
Although direct data records do not indicate exports to Iran, the increase in exports to the United Arab Emirates (+253.7% this year) and exports to Turkey, of 13,514 tons (an increase of 865% even without a health agreement with Brazil), demonstrate the growth of the Iranian market.
Given the operational difficulties for direct exports to Iran, the UAE and Türkiye remain an export route.
