Renewed tornado threat for Italy: expert from Germany warns of “dangerous weather conditions”
If it is up to the graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung, the golden autumn, after the brief winter glimpse into Germany, should soon return. Like the expert on the weather portal wetter.net explains, Germany can look forward to sunny moments again in the coming days. But further south the situation seems to be much more stormy. As Dominik Jung reports, the storm phase in the southern countries should continue in the next few days.
“From Italy to Greece via Crete to Turkey, a storm low creates new difficult weather conditions. It can even lead to tornadoes and waterspouts, ”explains Jung. In addition, heavy rains are said to cause large amounts of precipitation. The expert warns holidaymakers in particular that it is best to find out about the weather at their holiday destination before arriving. “We owe that to our golden October there, so to speak. We have the stable, beautiful weather high and the lows then just come south from the Atlantic and hit the Mediterranean again and again, ”explains Dominik Jung.
Tornado danger for several countries: an expert from Germany warns of waterspouts and tornadoes
The main focus of the severe storms are the south of Italy via Sicily to Greece and Turkey. In many places 150 to 250 liters of rain per square meter are possible. But that’s not all, waterspouts and, in some places, tornadoes should also be possible. “A dangerous weather situation,” says Jung. According to this, tourists should be careful, because that could “be life-threatening in the event of severe flooding”.
A tornado recently hit the Tuscan coast. At 140 kilometers an hour, it raced towards communities and caused floods and power outages.
