Famitsu shared i sales data of the Japanese market for end of February 2022. Here are the Top 10 games and hardware, showing us how Elden Ring brought PlayStation to the top.
Let’s talk to the Top 10 best selling games in Japan (total sales in brackets):

As you can see, Elden Ring – in the week of release – he was able to finish first and second, respectively with the PS4 version and with the PS5 version. In this way, moreover, Nintendo Switch did not go beyond the third position, an event that is far from common for the Japanese market. Sales, we specify, are only boxed games, but it is credible that the digital versions have sold excellent figures (probably even higher than the physical ones).
Nibel, via Twitteralso reports the sales of the first week of previous FromSoftware games. Sekiro placed 150,721 units, Dark Souls 3 218,764 units and Dark Souls 2 256,701 units. Elden Ring instead sold 278,507 units, thus beating all the previous departures just mentioned.
Let’s now turn to the hardware ranking:
- Switch OLED Model – 32,670 (1,278,322)
- Switch – 24,867 (18,040,917)
- PlayStation 5 – 15,418 (1,188,101)
- Switch Lite – 12,695 (4,593,377)
- Xbox Series S – 3,687 (72,136)
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 1,614 (215,009)
- Xbox Series X – 598 (84,927)
- New 2DS LL (including 2DS) – 511 (1,182,805)
- PlayStation 4 – 17 (7,819,342)
As always, Nintendo Switch tops the Top 10, but PS5 had a good week and ousted the Lite model. Excellent results also for Xbox Series S. Speaking of Xbox, here are the total data of the last twenty years of games and best-selling consoles.
