Japanese police intensified their patrols at Tokyo’s Haneda airport on Tuesday, as part of the reinforcement of security measures across the country ahead of the state funeral scheduled for later this month for the funeral of the assassinated former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The official Japanese news agency, “Kyodo”, said that 60 officers, equipped with two sniffer dogs and metal detectors, were searching garbage bins, lockers and parked cars, without their owners, in Terminal 3 at the airport, which is scheduled to be used by foreign delegations that will attend the funeral on Friday. September 27 in Tokyo.
The police also distributed leaflets to airport goers asking them to cooperate to prevent any terrorist attacks, for example by reporting suspicious objects.
The inspection procedures, which were followed by representatives of the press, also included the airport building operation authority and a security company.
It is noteworthy that the Japanese government expects more than 190 foreign delegations to visit Japan to attend the funeral ceremony, which will be held at Nippon Budokan Hall.
