Maritime Rescue recovered this Tuesday in the Atlantic three bodies of migrants died when trying to reach the Canary Islands in precarious boats and has helped another 495 people on another day of intense arrival of boats and cayucos to the islands, the fifth in a row.
According to a count carried out by EFE with the data provided by the emergency services, since November 1 they have been rescued in Lanzarote, El Hierro, Fuerteventura and Tenerife 3,130 immigrants from 49 inflatable boats and canoess.
The death toll in these five days alone now rises to 58a figure to which was added this Wednesday a man who died aboard a canoe rescued when it was adrift 320 kilometers south of The Iron and two young Maghreb whose bodies were found by a fishing boat in waters near Lanzarote.
Both were young men in their 20s and had signs that suggest they may have drowned in a shipwreck: One was wearing a life jacket and the other had tried to stay afloat with a tire wrapped around his chest.
The first rescue of the day actually began this Monday night, when the Guardamar Talía He reached the position of a cayuco that had been cared for for hours by the British tugboat that found it, already adrift, a long distance from El Hierro.
There were 131 occupants on board from Senegal and Gambiaamong them eleven women and five minors. The group included one person who was already dead and another who was evacuated by helicopter to the El Hierro Hospital.
Upon arrival in La Restinga, this Tuesday morning, those rescued from that canoe said that they left Dakar and that they had been at sea for 15 days. The other six rescues this Tuesday took place in Lanzarote, an island that in the last five days has received more than 1,800 immigrants rescued from 35 boats and inflatable boats.
The first ones were done in the morning by Guardamar Calliopewhich rescued a total of 225 people in four boats (50, 55, 62 and 58), and the other two were carried out by the Guardamar Concepción Arenalwhich saved another 139 people (69 and about 70).
The first group of people rescued by Concepción Arenal was sighted near the coast of Punta Women by a sailboat, while the second has been saved thanks to being detected 90 kilometers from land by a container ship en route to Malaysia.
His situation was already compromised; In fact, when the rescue boat arrived at them, they were bailing out water from the inflatable boat, a Rescue spokesperson said.
