Islamabad – At least three people were killed and 26 others injured in an explosion at a busy market in the Pakistani city of Lahore. Local official Mohamed Usman Younis said on Thursday. According to initial findings, the bomb was mounted on a motorcycle parked in front of one of the shops, local police officer Abid Khan said. At least four of the injured are in critical condition, said doctor Iftikhar Ahmed from Lahore’s main hospital.
Such a bomb attack in the city of ten million in the east of the country is extremely rare. So far, no one has acknowledged this. Recently, the number of attacks by the Pakistani Taliban in the country had increased. The government in Islamabad therefore increased the security level in the country’s largest cities on Wednesday. The militants are striving to establish an Islamist regime like that in Afghanistan. (dpa)
