«If the story of my beautiful daughter gets an employee of the emergency service or a emergency doctorwhen faced with a young woman who presents severe and repeated headaches and also vomiting, go immediately to have the necessary tests performed to obtain a quick and adequate diagnosis, then I will be able to say that making my beloved daughter’s story public will not be been in vain.” These are the words of a father broken with pain who lost his 21-year-old daughter in 2022 due to an “unacceptable” delay in the diagnosis of the serious condition of Cerebral Vein Thrombosis (TVC) that he presented.
Neither the emergency services nor the emergency services of the Sea Hospital of Barcelona knew how to gauge the severity of the condition and the young woman died as a result of a CVT after three days without being treated for the cerebrovascular condition. «Your daughter suffers a food poisoning and SARS-Cov infection. “Nothing serious,” the hospital specialists told him before discharging him, after a simple examination, without any diagnostic test. It was the beginning of a dizzying race towards the sad end for this young woman, who arrived on March 2 without having received treatment.
The family reported the incident to the Court of 1st Instance No. 33 of Barcelona and now she must be compensated with almost all of what she claimed after reaching an agreement with her legal representatives, from the association ‘The Patient Advocate’, with the insurance company Catalan Health Service (CatSalut). The relatives do not want to talk to the media or give details about the amount of compensation because they understand that “there is no amount of money in the world that can be compared to my daughter’s life.”

Reluctance to send an ambulance

The lawyer of ‘El Defensor del Paciente’, Luisa Blancowho has led the defense of the case, argued that the patient died as a result of the “serious and unacceptable” diagnostic delay.
He points out that the young woman “suffered serious symptoms that required emergency diagnosis and treatment.
