He new Bizi Zaragoza service It will come into operation in January of next year with 1,100 bicycles and 108 stations and will advance its complete implementation to October 2025, three months ahead of schedule, with the expectation that it will exceed 50,000 annual subscribers.
The process of removing the old stations and installing the new terminals – in many cases in the same location – has been progressing at a rate of four a day since last Monday, which allows the council to assure, according to the UTE Serveo-PBSC, awarded the servicethe advance of its full deployment by three months, as announced this Thursday by the mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, together with the municipal councilor for the Environment and Mobility of the council, Tatiana Gaudes.
The service will be launched with just over a thousand bicycles and 108 stations, figures equivalent to the previous concession. A first step before its implementation throughout 2025 with 2,500 bikes throughout all the districts and neighborhoods of the city.
The objective is for the new Bizi to be fully operational as soon as possible, taking into account that a high demand from subscribers is expected, in addition to weekly bonus users and occasional uses, also foreseen in the management of the service.
“What we are looking for is to promote sustainable mobility and agility in travel, facilitating not only for current users of the bike but also for new users who can join because the Bizi system is assisted pedaling and, therefore, to make it easier for more people and non-regular bike users to integrate into this personal mobility system,” highlighted the mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca.
The active users that Bizi Zaragoza had until now have been receiving a message in their emails offering the transfer of their basic data to be able to have priority when subscribing, if they wish. Practically 100% of the users who have responded to said message have done so affirmatively, which suggests that almost all of them will switch to the new service as soon as this possibility is activated.
It is expected that registration will open before Christmas for users of the previous service and, in January, for the rest at a price of 30 euros the first year until October 2025. Registrations can be made through the service’s website or through the app, when activated.
In order to guarantee good management of the service that avoids saturation, it is initially planned to limit the maximum initial number of annual subscribers. This amount, not yet determined exactly, will in any case include users of the previous Bizi who wish to register for the new one.
The global number will modulate and grow progressively as the number of stations increases – in May and October -.
The mayor has also announced the pricing proposal that will be approved soon, and which includes a specific promotional discount. Thus, those who subscribe in this first stage – until October 2025– they will pay only 30 euros –instead of the planned 40– for that annual subscription.
For those registered between October and December, the cost would be 40 euros – instead of the official 60 euros, a figure that the service will cost after the promotional period. As previously announced, monthly bonuses, daily bonuses and the possibility of a single trip will also be offered.
Each of these cases will also have promotional offers that will be detailed once the public prices for this service are approved.
“This first year we thought we could lreach 55,000 usersbut we are convinced that the interest will be much greater as soon as the user gets used to it and sees the comforts and connectivity that make it easier for them to reach all the places. Without a doubt we believe that we could double that figure,” Chueca estimated.
EU subsidized project
The service was awarded last March to the UTE Serveo Servicios and PBSC Urban Solutions. This ten-year contract has support of 6,572,918.54 euros for its implementation through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union-NextGeneration EU.
The new Bizi will practically double the current one –1,300 bikes and 130 stations–, with a total of 2,500 pedal-assisted bicycles and 276 docking stations.
The use of pedal-assisted bicycles, as well as the great increase in the number of stations and bikes available, will make it possible, as a great advantage for citizens, to extend the service to all districts of Zaragoza, as well as the possibility of making trips longer in this means of transport.
In fact, another important characteristic that is reflected in the specifications is that the service will operate 24 hours a day, thus responding to a request made throughout the years of operation of the Bizi by its users.
The main logistical challenge for the implementation of the new system will be electrical and data connections. Both the Urban Mobility services and the Infrastructure and Urban Planning services, among others, have been working in a coordinated manner for months.
