US President Joe Biden announced Monday that Al Qaeda chief Ayman al Zawahiri was killed in a US drone strike in Afghanistan on Saturday night.
This is how the president announced this new blow to the Islamic State in the White House: “On Saturday, on my orders, the United States carried out an airstrike on Kabul, Afghanistan, killing Al Qaeda emir Ayman al Zawahiri.“.
Justice has been served and this terrorist leader is no longer
Ayman al Zawahiri was one of the most wanted terrorists by the United States, which promised 25 million dollars for any information that would allow him to be arrested.
Ayman al-Zawahiri was of Egyptian origin and was Bin Laden’s right-hand man, which is why he was wanted by the FBI. He was charged with terrorism, conspiracy, kidnapping and murder.
“Although he had many flaws, (Al Zawahiri) was not as insignificant as many analysts believed,” Thomas Joscelyn, an expert at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies think tank, said on Twitter on Monday.

In this regard, Colin Clarke, a researcher at the American think tank Soufan Group, said the following: “Despite Zawahiri’s leadership (…) the group still faces serious challenges. On the one hand, there is the issue of who will lead Al Qaeda once Zawahiri is gone.”
This is how the United States reacted
Before the news, the reactions of the leaders of the North American country were multiple. Saudi Arabia, for example, celebrated Biden’s announcement, calling Zawahiri “one of the leaders of terrorism who directed the planning and execution of heinous terrorist operations in the United States, Saudi Arabia and other countries“.
I know that our country and our democracy are safer because of the brave men and women who worked to make this happen.
“So Ayman Zawahiri was in Kabul, despite being told for years that the Taliban had severed ties with Al Qaeda? I assume he wandered into Kabul incognito, unbeknownst to the Taliban and ISIS in Pakistan,” accused former US special envoy for Syria Joel Rayburn.
For his part, Evan McMullin wrote on his social networks the following: “I have just been informed that the leader of Al Qaeda, Ayman Al Zawahiri, has been assassinated. As a former CIA officer who removed terrorists from the battlefield in abroad, I know that our country and our democracy are safer because of the brave men and women who worked to make this happen.“.

I hope it brings some peace to the 9/11 families and all others who have suffered at the hands of al-Qaeda.
For its part, Former President Barack Obama wrote on his Twitter account that the news is proof that it is possible to eradicate terrorism without being at war in Afghanistan: “It is a tribute to the leadership of President Biden, to the members of the intelligence community who have been working for decades for this moment, and to the counterterrorism professionals who were able to eliminate al-Zawahiri without a single civilian casualty.“.
He also recalled that more than 20 years have passed since the attack on the Twin Towers: “One of the intellectual authors of that terrorist attack and Osama bin Laden’s successor as leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, was finally brought before Justice”.
Tonight’s news is also proof that it’s possible to root out terrorism without being at war in Afghanistan. And I hope it provides a small measure of peace to the 9/11 families and everyone else who has suffered at the hands of al-Qaeda.
