On Friday (March 18) there will be the third full moon in 2022. It also symbolically heralds spring and is called “worm moon”.
Theoretically, the full moon is already present early on Friday morning. But you can only see it in the evening or on the night of Saturday. It is the third full moon of this year and should bring spring and with it the long-awaited spring-like weather.
The popular name “worm moon” already shows what the farewell to the cold winter with frozen ground entails: worms that the songbirds, which also need something to eat in the spring sun between their song performances, can then peck out of the ground again.
“Wormmoon” on March 18 brings spring
The third full moon of the year, which also brings spring and warmer weather with March, has different names depending on the region. So the March moon or Lent moon are also common names. This year, surprisingly appropriately, the “worm moon” almost coincides with the equinox on March 21st.
Even if you can’t get ready for the sun in March, there are indications that this year could be the driest March since 1881. However, you should take a look at short-term weather forecasts and not despair if it rains – it could lure the worms out of the ground and thus provide food for the birds, which may then chirp an even nicer song to welcome spring.
