The British newspaper, “Daily Mail”, reported that the couple traveled to war-torn Ukraine, in order to bring their daughter, whom they gave birth through.
A surrogate mother lives in the city of Odessa, which is currently under bombardment.
The couple, Kevin and Jessica Van Noten, received word of the birth of their daughter Alaba 10 weeks early, last Tuesday.
Head to Poland and from there to Ukraine by car to the Moldova border and then the Ukrainian border.
Meanwhile, war had broken out and people were fleeing Ukraine.
The two went to Ukraine, despite a travel warning issued by the Australian government to its nationals about traveling to that country.
The wife said that she had received a call from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prevent her from going, but her response was that she had made up her mind and decided to travel.
She added: “Scott Morrison (Australian Prime Minister) has children. Can you not travel? Would you leave your child there? It’s not an option.”
Although flights to Ukraine were canceled due to the closure of the airspace, the couple decided to go ahead with their travels to Ukraine.
They traveled to Poland by plane and from there by car to Ukraine.
The couple stated that they had exhausted all methods in order to have children, and then worked to rent a womb in Ukraine, and the matter faltered for a short period due to the Corona pandemic.
The Australian woman sent her fetus to a woman residing in the Ukrainian city of Odessa in May 2021, and the latter became pregnant in September of the same year.
The baby was born prematurely and is now being cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit.
“We got a message on Tuesday night. Our baby girl was born in an emergency, then (I thought) I should get out of here (Australia),” she said.
