Twenty-three women, who were deceived by an international human trafficking network with false job offers in beauty salons and elderly care, but later they were forced into prostitution, they were released in Spain. One of them has an intellectual disability.
The rescue of the women was carried out by the National Police, who arrested eight people in several provinces of Spain. Two of them were in provisional prison, according to information from the newspaper The vanguard.
The criminal organization promised them a formal job, but then forced them into prostitution. The criminals contacted customers through websites and they agreed with them on sexual services, and the victims could not refuse them. In addition, women were forced to pay money to the network.
To obtain the victims, the human trafficking network recruited them through people they knew, family members or compatriots, in their country of origin or in Spain, where they were in an irregular situation. The criminals forced them into prostitution in order to pay debts they had in their country.
Women who have intellectual disabilities are enrolled in the protection system called 'Curatela'.
They moved them from place to place
The victims entered Spain through the Madrid or Barcelona airports from their countries of origin.
To evade the authorities, the network moved women from province to province under threats. In fact, the 23 victims of sexual exploitation were in the cities of Úbeda (Jaén), Alicante, Guadalajara, Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), Lugo and Ciudad Real.
The captured people could answer for the alleged crimes of trafficking in persons for the purposes of sexual exploitation, related to prostitution, against workers' rights, money laundering, against public health and membership in a criminal organization.
